About your trip

Trip Duration: 4 days, 3 nights

Difficulty Level: Beginner to Intermediate

Join us as we explore Arizona with a twist! We will be offering both beginner and intermediate itineraries for this trip. Beginner hikes will be shortened versions of the longer routes. We will spend each evening building community and connection — through khatiras, reflections, and intentional sisterhood activities that make Ma’wa trips unforgettable.

Our Beginner level trip can be done by those with limited hiking and outdoor experience. The activities and hikes planned are easy with some challenging inclines.

Our Intermediate level trip is designed for women who already have solid hiking experience and are comfortable on longer and steeper trails. Expect uneven terrain and sections that require balance and endurance. Intermediate participants should be able to hike 8–10 miles in a day with elevation gain, handle back-to-back hiking days, and maintain a steady pace as part of a group. It’s an experience, designed for women who want to push themselves while exploring Sedona’s most iconic red-rock landscapes, practice tadabbur in nature, and connect with a strong community of Muslim women! Proper preparation, fitness, and hiking shoes with good traction are required.

Trip Itinerary highlights include:

🏜 Surround yourself with towering sandstone formations on our hikes to Cathedral Rock, Hangover Trail, and Sugarloaf Summit

🥾 Trek to Devil’s Bridge and walk across a natural arch carved over millions of years

🌄 Watch the sunrise from the summit of Doe Mountain

📸 Soak in panoramic glowing red rock views at Lover’s Knoll during sunset

☕️ Evenings of connection with group dinners, khatiras, and community reflections

🌌 Stargaze under one of the clearest night skies in a prestigious International Dark Sky Community

We will be hiking through a diverse geologic landscape. Expect rugged terrain, moderate elevation gain, varied landscapes (rocky paths, uneven surfaces, and occasional steep inclines). Proper footwear is essential and all participants will need to bring good quality hiking boots to complete planned hikes in the itinerary.

🏠 Lodging: There is one lodge for this trip. Each bedroom has a different configuration of beds - you may register for your preferred sleeping arrangement via our booking platform. The lodging reserved for this trip is located in Cottonwood - about a 2 hour drive from Phoenix International Airport (PHX). Participants should be prepared for some driving/commuting over the course of the weekend to reach the hikes and activities planned in the itinerary.

✈️ Flights: If you will be flying in for this trip, we recommend flying into Phoenix International Airport (PHX): arrival must be no later than 2 pm on Friday, February 13th, and departure no earlier than 12 pm on Monday, February 16th.

🚗 Carpools: While we can assist with arranging carpools among participants, we cannot guarantee that every Trip will have local participants that are able to volunteer their personal cars and offer a carpool. In some cases, a rental car may be the only option for carpooling. Some participants will need to volunteer as drivers for the rentals and the cost of the rental car is not covered by Ma’wa Collective.
