Hood in the heart of the Pacific Northwest. This Moderate level trip (Difficulty Rating: 2/5) offers the perfect balance of fun and challenge, featuring guided snow activities designed for those with good physical fitness. With the right winter gear and a spirit for adventure, you’ll be set for an unforgettable weekend in the snow.
Trip Itinerary highlights include:
🌲 Scenic snowshoe hikes surrounded by frozen waterfalls and winter forest views
❄️ Charming afternoon in Government Camp & Mt. Hood Village — explore cafés, local shops, and cozy mountain vibes
⛷️ Cross-country skiing or snow tubing adventure at Mt. Hood’s snowy slopes (guided cross-country ski tour through Mt. Hood’s snowy landscapes. Suitable for beginners — no prior experience needed)
🏔️ Snowshoe to Trillium Lake for stunning alpine views and reflections of Mt. Hood
🔥 Evenings of connection with group dinners, khatiras, and community reflections by the fire
🌙 Optional moonlit snowshoe tour under the stars followed by s’mores, stargazing, and hot tub time
Note: our itinerary may be subject to slight changes throughout the weekend due to delays, weather, or factors outside of our control.
🏠 Lodging: There is one large lodge reserved for this trip with 9 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. Each bedroom has a different configuration of beds, you may register for your preferred sleeping arrangement during booking. The lodging reserved for this trip is located in Government Camp (located right at the base of Mt. Hood) - about a 1 hour and 15 minute drive from Portland International Airport (PDX). Participants should be prepared for some driving/commuting over the course of the weekend to reach the hikes and activities planned in the itinerary.
✈️ Flights: If you will be flying in for this trip, we recommend flying into Portland International Airport (PDX): arrival must be no later than 1 pm on Friday, January 30th, and departure no earlier than 1 pm on Monday, February 2nd. Transportation is NOT included with registration for this trip. Please make arrangements accordingly to arrive at our lodging by 5 pm PST, locations will be shared with all registered participants.
🚗 Carpools: While we can assist with arranging carpools among participants, we cannot guarantee that every Trip will have local participants that are able to volunteer their personal cars and offer a carpool. In some cases, a rental car may be the only option for carpooling. Some participants will need to volunteer as drivers for the rentals and the cost of the rental car is not covered by Ma’wa Collective.
This trip includes several snow-based activities, such as cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Participants should come prepared for cold and snowy conditions. We recommend waterproof snow pants and a jacket, layered with moisture-wicking base layers and insulating mid-layers (avoid cotton). Bring gloves, waterproof boots, and a neck warmer; optional items like hand and toe warmers or a change of clothes can add extra comfort.
Please note that parts of Mt. Hood are designated Snow Zones, where vehicles are required to carry tire chains or have proper winter traction tires.
